"Peterson Faces Death"

Drudge headline: "Peterson faces death"

Maybe that's the sentence he'll get, but in California they mean "death by old age." Barring either prison violence or a wholesale change in the makeup of the US 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, there is almost zero chance that Peterson will be executed by the State of California, even if he "loses" every appeal.

What a sick joke.

Think about it though, A man kills his wife in a pathetic attempt to free himself of a relationship and ends up not as a free man but a sex toy for some other man, forced to live the rest of his craven life in prison with no hope of any level of personal freedom.

Im normally ok with the death penalty, but in this case the nature of the crime and its motivation has lead us to his punishment in a way that would even make Hammurabi laugh.

All that assumes, of course, that he'll be sentenced to death in the first place. Has a Bay Area jury ever sentenced anyone to death?
