Rather's Next Moves?

As I woke this morning, I had this hazy recolection of a dream about the future of the MemoGate scandal. All I can remember are a few bits and pieces:

  • A statement is issued by CBS News management stating that they are 1000% behind Dan
  • Rather blames a conspiracy of lies and innuendo by "outside agitators" trying to undermine the 1st Amendment and the integrity of CBS News
  • After polls show that 78% of the public believe that the memos were forged, several of Rather's subordinates will resign "as the result of the most intensive internal investigation in CBS News' history"
  • Meeting in an parking garage, one of Rather's staffers tells Sean Hannity that the scandal reaches "to the highest levels in CBS News" and to "follow the faxes"
  • Fax and phone logs obtained by Fox show constant contact between Rather and Kerry's campaign
  • Rather tries one last time to dispell rumors of his involvement, stating "I am not a crook"
  • A thorough examination of Rather's home computer reveals fragments of early drafts of the forgeries, discussions of the timing of their unveiling with the Kerry campaign, and some odd ramblings about frequencies for contacting space aliens, under his Democratic Underground persona of "Kenneth"
  • A delegation of reporters, led by Walter Cronkite and Daniel Schorr arrive to tell Dan it's time to go
  • Rather resigns from CBS News, stating that "right-wing politicians won't have [him] to kick around anymore".
Unfortunately, I can't remember who won the election....
